Reviewing Your Medicare Advantage Plan
What to look for:
Review your plan during AEP (Oct 15th – Dec 7th) for these reasons:
- Plan Changes: Premiums, deductibles, and coverage options can change annually.
- Prescription Benefits: Check if your medications are still covered as formularies may update. Increased Part D benefits are included in MAPD coverage.
- Provider Access: Providers may change networks, often effective Jan 1st.
2025 Part D Changes (included in your MAPD plan)
Annual Notice of Change
- The Insurance company must send this to you by Sept. 30th of each year.
- This notice will tell you what’s changing with your plan for next year.
- This is a large packet, but don’t panic–typically the very first page summarizes any changes.
- If the changes seem minor to you and you have been overall happy with your plan, there is nothing you need to do- your current coverage will automatically renew.
- If something major is changing, contact HTA to schedule an appointment to review your plan changes and alternative options that may be available.
Important AEP Dates
Reasons for Changing Your Advantage Plan
- You do not like the plan changes for the upcoming year
- Your monthly premium is increasing
- One of your doctors/hospitals will no longer be in network
- An important prescription is no longer covered on the formulary
- You want to switch to more comprehensive coverage provided by a Medicare Supplement Plan.
Should I consider a Medicare Supplement rather than a Medicare Advantage Plan?
Switching to a Medicare Supplement plan generally requires you to pass medical underwriting and be approved for the new policy.
Please watch the video to review the differences between Medicare Supplement (MediGap) and Medicare Advantage (Part C).
If you are interested in switching to a Medicare Supplement plan, schedule a consultation with an HTA Medicare Advisor who will guide you through the plans available and assist with making the change.
